I do not envy the task of the judges for our annual Best of Web competition.
Besides the usual parameters for judging a design competition—layout,
typography, color, use of imagery—they also must consider factors
exclusive to the digital realm: interface ease-of-use, continuity, scalability,
content management, on and on.

STEP Design 100 Annual 2007: Posters (cont'd) |

90 THE SMALL STAKES
The Books is an experimental band that combines traditional instruments
with samples of speech and found sound. Designer Jason Munn noticed
the double Os in the band’s name and realized this opportunity was too
good to pass up.
He unraveled an old cassette, constructed a tangle of magnetic
tape and scanned it in. These posters were featured in store windows
and posted at the venue to promote the gig. Munn also had a
chance to see his work embraced by the masses: Extra copies were
featured at the merchandise table at the show, where they quickly
sold out. And the band? “I met them at the show,” says Munn.
“They have been one of my favorite bands for a while and are great
guys to boot.” by Alissa Walker
