“This project was special because of how strongly I believe in this client
and the work that they are doing to benefit the world,” says art director
and designer James Costello of the Field Museum’s ECCo (Environment,
Culture and Conservation) Report. The Field Museum plays a vital role,
as is written in the report, “in the understanding and responsible stewardship
of the diverse life on our planet.”
The report presents three case studies of work conducted in
Peru, Ecuador and the U.S., showcasing ECCo’s unique and successful
approach to sustainable conservation. “The client wanted
a brochure, targeted to potential donors, that would communicate
their tremendous success,” explains Costello.
Costello’s creative approach was to tell each story through individual
case studies conveying the process and results of ECCo’s
work. The piece is exquisitely illustrated with photographs of
some of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth and their varied
inhabitants. “The greatest challenge for ECCo is helping people
understand what they do and why they are successful,” Costello
says. “This piece gave the client a useful tool that they could use to
communicate their mission and to raise funding.” by Dana Rouse
