We’ve done a fair amount of work for museums and cultural institutions. I think you could say we’re known for it,” says Petter Ringbom of Flat. The curatorial mission of the people at Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College, their interdisciplinary spirit and institutional transparency, along with the architecture of the building itself and the nature around it, presented plenty of inspiration for the site’s design.

“We set out to create a dynamic system on a limited budget,” says Ringborn, art director on the project. “The site had to be maintained by a small staff, yet feel alive, current, and be able to grow with time,” he says. Dramatic photography was used throughout the site to support the museum’s mission.

Working with the staff at Tang was a wonderful perk. “They are passionate and smart people,” he says. “It’s a joy to do a project when the final decision makers are invested in it and appreciate what you do.” Nevertheless, Ringborn doesn’t live his life in museums. “I intentionally fill my personal life with things far removed from my professional activities. Since I get to spend a lot of time working with museums on a day-to-day basis, I’d rather spend my time off doing other things,” he says, “like racing motorcycles.”
