“The Continental is the place to be right now in Philly,” says 160over90’s
associate creative director Jim Walls. “You walk in and you’re just immersed
in its super-fab world, and immediately you think, ‘I’m in.’ You go
there to be spotted. The inside is tall and grand, and the open-air rooftop
lounge has its endless ceiling, and they’re both smacking you across the
face with grande lux-itude. Stephen Starr operates 13 over-the-top restaurants
in Philly, and this one relishes the fact that it has an edgier appeal.
So it had to be different,” he says, speaking of the website design. “Easy on
the eyes and smooth going down, like a good shot of Patrón.” Walls admits
that researching the drink menu was his favorite part of the job.
When asked if he could describe the concept for the website as
a piece of art, Walls says in good humor, “What if Hugh Hefner
commissioned Norman Rockwell for a portrait and inadvertently
got him hooked on jet-setting? Norm would spend afternoons
holed up in a corner spot in the lounge of the Continental, and
today we’d know him as the guy who painted busty stripe-shirted
girls shaking martinis instead of soda jerks, puppies, and boy
scouts. And this would be his website.”
