“We have various audiences,” says CollectiveLab creative director Marko
Bon, “from the ‘brand evangelists’ of whom there are many for Sapphire,
to the design community with which Sapphire is deeply involved, to the
casual surfer who knows nothing about what makes Sapphire distinct
from other liquors.”
For this design, he explains, “we wanted to do something much
more esoteric, more dreamlike and strange, almost spooky. We
were really jazzed about the Psyops work in their TV spot. We
wanted to pick up on that spirit and expand on it,” he says.
“Honestly,” Bon admits, “we enjoyed learning about and sampling
all the amazing drinks you can make with the product. We
were all surprised by its versatility. It mixes like a vodka, but has
more flavors than a vodka, so fruits and garnishes pick up on these
subtleties and can make for some spectacular drinks.”
All of their tasting led the team to propose a video shoot. “We
filmed their brand ambassador and master mixologist in London,”
Bon says. “Getting approval for that shoot, working with the London-
based crew, and making this seemingly small bit of interactivity
a reality was an excellent experience.”
