YOKO INOUE PHOTOGRAPHY
LATIN NAME: Perspicax pictura
AGE: 28
DESCRIPTION:
Born and raised in Japan, photographer Yoko Inoue says the culture
did not appreciate women or young people, so she left. She
lived in Australia, London, and upstate New York before completing
her BFA at Parsons School of Design in New York City. She is
now a freelance photographer specializing in environmental portraiture
and still-life photography. Inoue’s current editorial clients
include I.D., Martha Stewart Living, Travel and Leisure, and The
Architect’s Newspaper.
VOICE:
Inoue’s personal projects include a body of work taken from the
vantage point of an interstate bus—she photographed drivers in
their cars as they passed by below her. She loves fast cars and big
dogs, and is a believer in beauty and living life both responsibly
and hedonistically.
DISTINCTIVE MARKINGS:
One of the most color-obsessed people, Inoue will notice details
that most people ignore. She loves soft focus, and will take off her
glasses when confronted with something she finds unattractive.
HABITAT:
Inoue is currently contributing to the gentrification of the Navy
Yards neighborhood of Brooklyn. She lives and works out of her
loft, which overlooks the BQ Expressway. When not in New York
she can be found in Southern Vermont or visiting her family in
Okayama, Japan. Her favorite vacation spots are in the Caribbean
and Italy.
Martin Perrin, Perrin Studio, New York: “What has always struck
me about Yoko’s work is her acute interest in the smaller details
that fill our lives. Her observations are never cluttered with multiple
viewpoints; she presents every frame with a beautiful clarity.
Yoko’s strength lies in her ability to capture a poetic simplicity
amongst the often unnoticed debris of everyday life.”SPOTTED BY:
