STEP INSIDE
In the beginning was Logos, the Word, representing both the imminence of meaning and its source. Every written word, though, is made up of letters and is dependent on them. Words have the power to evoke emotion and effect change, and at the heart of that power is a mystery in the form of letters.

The Latest and Greatest Gadgets and Accessories
IN THE MOOD
Talk about mood lighting. Illuminate your yard with Moonlight Lamps from Oriac Design, and your outdoor gathering is sure to be a hit into the wee hours of the morning. The orbs’ high-quality, long-lasting polyethylene is able to withstand temperatures from –40 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit, as well as being UV stable and water resistant, so you can party any time of the year. The lamps come in three sizes, and each one has a 15-foot-long cord, making it easy to arrange them any way you wish. Oriac Design Moonlight Lamp, $454–$897, 866.466.7422, www.oriacdesign.com

NAIL BITER
Stefano Pirovano’s take on the everyday nail clipper puts a fun spin on a humdrum but necessary task. You won’t want to hide the Canaglia Nail Clipper from Alessi in your medicine cabinet—it’s not just a tool, it’s an accessory. The yellow, dark blue, or red plastic animal body stands on all fours and conceals the clippers. Put those nails where the mouth is, and let it chomp away. Retromodern Canaglia Nail Clipper, $20, 877.724.0093, www.retromodern.com

POP THAT BOTTLE TOP
This diabolical little guy comes in handy when you need that beer opened quickly—and don’t we all. Plus, he’s so strange looking that you shouldn’t have a hard time finding him in your kitchen drawer. Designed by Biagio Cisotti, Alessi’s Diabolix Bottle Opener comes in red, gray/black, blue, green, yellow, and violet, and is one of Retromodern.com’s most popular gift ideas. Retromodern Diabolix Bottle Opener, $17, 877.724.0093, www.retromodern.com

TIGHT WEAVE
Master weaver and artist Joanna Michalowicz, a graduate of Parsons School of Design, trained each of the 200 to 300 highly skilled artisans who comprise ASHA Carpets. Stemming from Michalowicz’s training in sculpture and painting, as well as carpet restoration, ASHA’s fitting tagline, Fine Art for Your Floor, explains the organization’s credo that superb craftsmanship is not only required and expected—the pieces should also be unique works of art. ASHA Carpets are available in the less expensive flat weave, the skillfully hand-knotted (varying in knots per foot), or mixed techniques. ASHA weavers use only the highestquality, handspun wool, dyed to exacting standards, and Michalowicz herself supervises the making of every product from start to finish. Custom designs are also available. ASHA Carpets, $3,500–$8,000 for 8x10-foot size, www.ashacarpets.com
