For the surfer who can no longer wear flip-flops to work but arrives to the o≈ce brushing the sand from his hair, there is QuikSilverEdition, the sophisticated sibling to beach sport outfitter QuikSilver. “We created the entire brand from the bottom up,” says Clive Piercy, whose Santa Monica studio, Ph.D, has been on board since Edition’s inception, crafting sexy visuals for the upscale line.

“Clive always comes up with something fresh but maintains the evolution and the continuity of the brand,” says QuikSilver’s Guy Stagman. The sleek, sporty book was Piercy’s solution for showcasing the season’s high-end hang-ten fashions.

Gorgeous shots of “functional models” like North Shore lifeguard/ champion longboarder Guy Pere, and big-wave rider Dave Kalama are slipped between sets of blue and tan lined paper. “Sky Surf Sand” feels wind-buffed; even the cover is soft like an old pair of board shorts.

The book’s small size was also Piercy’s idea. “We made it a journal so people would actually be able to use it,” says Piercy. But due to their handiness, the pieces have all but disappeared. Look for one at the beach. No doubt you’ll see it being used to copy a tide chart or directions to a killer break. Alissa Walker
