STEP INSIDE
As Tiffany Meyers observes in her overview of the 100 winners, one can’t peg 2009 as the year of any specific color or typographic convention. But the winning projects are reflective of today’s increasingly diverse design discipline. In fact, one has to wonder if there is any longer such a thing as a design discipline—in light of today’s fast-changing and even amorphous practice, the word discipline seems a little out of place.

STEP 100 Design Annual 2005: Web (cont'd)

61. ONE9INE
The challenge in creating the web presence of AR, a creative firm that works with the top names in fashion, was to design a thrilling online showcase that expresses its vision and approach to branding while allowing the site to catalog and archive its current and past work in-house.

The task was made easier by the client’s trove of compelling photography, says art director Warren Corbitt. Noting that in most projects, the photography budget is always the first thing to be cut, he asks, “How can you go wrong with this level of photography to base your design around?” One9ine’s solution includes an opener in which motion graphics tease the viewer with tantalizing glimpses of the lissome models and luxe accoutrements that form the basis of AR’s work.

Behind the scenes, a custom content management system lets AR keep its website content au courant and also acts as an archiving tool for finding information and assets from previous campaigns. Ken Coupland
