60. STOLTZE DESIGN
The Design Partnership of Cambridge hired Stoltze Design to create a
new website, positioning their firm as a leader in architecture for educational
and civic institutions.
“One requirement,” says art director Clifford Stoltze, “was to
design and build the new site for scalability, streamlined maintenance,
and content management without compromising design
or functionality.”
Based on user profiles developed during the strategy phase of
the project, the Stoltze team discovered that target audiences had
varying information needs and behaviors when visiting the website.
These ranged from scanning and browsing to delving deeper
into the site and reading case studies. “We explored a number of
options before settling on this very clean and easy-to-navigate
solution,” Stoltze explains. “We thought it was the right balance
between usability and sophistication that would appeal to the target
audience.”
In addition to the Gallery section categorizing the firm’s work
by building type, the team also conceived and developed a “Focus
On” area to emphasize the firm’s expertise in key areas.
“We had been waiting for an opportunity to build an entire
Flash site where we could demonstrate how the technology can be
seamless and invisible, but also intricate and essential to the experience,”
Stoltze says. “In other words, it’s not flashy.” Dana Rouse
