The William Traver Gallery, hosting Italian glass art master Lino
Tagliapietra, needed a dramatic, high-end catalog to accompany
his show and serve as a worthy representation of his work.
“Lino’s pieces are in such demand with glass art collectors
around the world that they almost sell themselves,” explains designer
Dale Hart. “It was important that the catalog present the
work in all its beauty to collectors who could not attend the show.”
The beautiful glasswork itself drove the catalog design, Hart
says, calling each object “a one-of-a-kind wonder of vibrant color
and gravity-defying forms.” Hart and art director Anne Traver
chose to photograph each piece isolated in a pristine, stark studio
setting. Dramatic close-ups of some pieces are complemented by
black-and-white spreads “showing Lino working his magic in his
studio hot-shop,” Hart notes.
With a bright fuchsia cover and hot yellow and pink typography,
there can be no doubt that Tagliapietra’s work, right down to
the catalog representing it, is nothing less than a passionate celebration
of color.
“The shiny pink, transparent acrylic cover supports the glass
art motif of the show,” Hart says, “and really makes the cool, modern
catalog impossible to ignore.” Romy Ashby
