Figures 4a & 4b MALAMUD BOOK COVER SERIES
FIRM: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, NY
DESIGNER, ART DIRECTOR, ILLUSTRATOR: Lynn Buckley
TYPEFACES: Trade Gothic, Rockwell, Hand Lettering
In these clean, appealing book covers for the novels of Bernard Malamud, the designer literally entwines the book's title with a related illustration—in this case, allowing the stitching of the baseball to flow into a handwritten title. "I was worried that after the first few designs the ideas would 'dry up'. But that proved to be exactly the opposite of what happened," says designer Lynn Buckley.
