Wink art director Richard Boynton recalls, “Express wanted hangtags for
their 1MX and Premium shirts that would incorporate the requisite supplemental
collar stays. But the client also wanted a new approach for each
of the two products, one that would differentiate them from all the other
Ziploc solutions utilized by ... well, everyone.”
For the 1MX shirts, the hangtags were screenprinted on die-cut
plastic and aluminum, allowing the collar stays to be simply
punched or twisted out. This environmentally conscious solution
eliminated the need for multiple pieces and therefore cut waste.
The Premium shirt hangtags employed a more traditional pouch
format, but instead of the Ziploc approach—which would normally
be accompanied by a paper hangtag—Wink chose a more
sophisticated solution. Specifying a black paper with a soft velvet
finish, a small coin-style envelope was created. Screen-printed
typography and a blind emboss lend an upscale feel. The collar
stays are inside the envelope, and the need for a separate hangtag
bearing brand identification is eliminated. by Sheree Clark
