DESIGN 100: BOOKLETS | BROCHURES (cont'd) |
|
14 THIRSTRarely does a real estate brochure transcend function and move into the realm of keepsake. This publication for Chicago auctioneer Richard Wright easily makes that leap.
In Pierre Koenig Case Study House #21, Thirst’s refined layout and typography serve as backdrop to the historic and current photography by Julius Shulman, age 97, who revisited the case study house with the same Sinar camera he originally used to shoot the home in the 1950s. Design director Rick Valicenti seems to pay homage to Pierre Koenig by specifying an embossed chipboard cover as cover for the brochure: The architect was known to have an affinity for using industrial materials himself. Describing his inspiration for the auction brochure, Valicenti says, “There are real estate brochures and then there are real estate brochures that reward the design community with intelligent content, historical photography and craft.”by Sheree Clark
